Youth Substance Use Disorder Counselor

The Youth Substance Use Disorder Counselor will be responsible for the delivery of counseling services for youth identified as having substance use disorders. This position's duties will include the following:

  • Complete individual and group aftercare counseling to individuals completing the program
  • Responsible for completing and reviewing recovery plans, ensuring that financials are updated bi-annually, and completing case management for individuals in the assigned caseload
  • Provide individual counseling services to clients identified as having a co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders.
  • Provide direct care services to adults in the Substance Use Treatment Program.
  • Manage the Texas HHSC contract requirements, providing services in compliance with state regulations including Texas Administrative Code and as stipulated in the Texas HHSC performance contract, ensuring performance expectations are met, and meeting other funding source requirements
  • Assist the Administrator of Substance Use Disorder Treatment Services with other duties including facilitating the walk-in clinic, providing face to face screening, evaluation, diagnostic, and initial recovery planning as needed
  • Work hours will be as follows: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm

Here's what you'll need:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Qualify as Qualified Mental Health Professional in State of Texas
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred (will be paid at a higher rate)
  • LCDC, LPC, LCSW or LMFT in the State of Texas
  • 2 years experience working with youth with Substance Use Behaviors
  • LCDC-Intern, Level III, with an Associates of Applied Science in Human Services, with three years experience in substance abuse treatment, considered at a lower salary

Offenses that are not an absolute bar to employment but may be considered a contraindication will also be considered during the pre-employment process. Tri-County will also complete a driver's license check. All applicants, employees, contractors and volunteers will be checked prior to hire and monthly through the Texas Health and Human Services Commission Office of the Inspector General (OIG) List of Excluded Individuals. All applicants are required to successfully complete a drug screening and a physical agility test prior to new hire orientation.

Applicants who are selected for a position in the Criminal Justice/Jail Diversion Department, TCOOMMI, and those who provide services to TCOOMMI, i.e., psychiatrists, nurses, etc., must have a Federal background check by fingerprinting through the FBI upon initial hire and annually thereafter.

Applicants who have lived out of state for two or more years from the date of submission of this application must have a Federal background check by fingerprinting through the FBI if they are selected for a position.
